Heidi Comes “Clean”

In an obvious ploy to placate people, Heidi attempts to come “clean”. Even going so far as to post a lengthy Q&A entitled “Kimkins Controversy” on the site. If that is coming “clean”,  she needs to change soaps. I won’t post the whole thing here–you can find it on many of the anti-kimkins blogs. I did want to highlight a few of them:

Q: Why the drama, denial and hiding?

A: For the past 10 years it was to avoid an invasion of my own privacy. However, for the past 3 years it was to protect the identity of my foster children. California foster regulations prohibit foster parents from making statements that would identify children as “foster”, even by association. Identifying myself which could lead to my home address or identifying me in public could identify them.

According to the state of California, Heidi has NO foster children. Even if she did—regulations forbid identifying them, NOT her. This is just another excuse generated to focus blame elsewhere.

Q: Did you lose 198 pounds in 11 months?

A: No. But I did lose 100 pounds in 6 months. However, since Kimkins appeared on the Woman’s World cover, I’ve been glued to my computer. I’m no different than any of you and I’m well familiar with stress eating or grabbing what’s handy instead of what’s Kimkins friendly.

The point here is Heidi LIED about ever losing any weight. PERIOD. End of story. Since she obviously lied about the 198lbs, how is someone to believe she really lost ANY weight. Then she supposedly regained weight after the WW article. That was in June, mind you. The PI footage appeared in July. So we are to believe she regained nearly 200lbs in 1 month. I know you have a rebound weight gain from a starvation diet, but 200 lbs is quite a bit for 1 month.

Q: What about the model photos in some of the Success Stories?

A: The majority of our earliest Success Stories were from another website and we couldn’t take those with us. We wanted to show visitors the possibilities with Kimkins. So, while we built up our newest batch, I created stories which were a compilation of previous successes that people had shared with me over the past 10 years. We’re extremely proud of all of our members (paid and unpaid) who have experienced weight loss success.

I don’t even know what to say for this. She lied. PERIOD. She CREATED stories. Which is author speak for “I LIED“. Then went shopping for pictures on “Russian bride” sites.

Q: What about the people who want to continue with Kimkins?

A: A lifetime membership is lifetime. You’re here and that’s permanent!

In fact, I’m going to be part of the “Watch Us Lose” models on the homepage and will update my stats each week, add updated photos and post in the Kimmer’s Back on Track Challenge. I will lose my weight all over again and everyone is welcome to lose right alongside me. I had baseline medical tests done a few weeks ago and will share both my starting and final results once I reach goal which I hope to be around my birthday in May 2008.

Why for the life of me, would anyone in there right mind consider staying with Kimkins? It is a starvation diet, plain and simple. Anyone can lose weight if you don’t eat anything.

As for the lifetime membership being permanent, just ask those legions of people who have been banned. Their lifetime membership was only good as long as they did not ask questions. PERIOD. Not on the Kimkins site or anywhere else on the net either. Yes, that’s right. Members were banned for thoughts and concerns expressed on other websites, blogs, and forums. So essentially, they were tracked by Heidi and her crew of misfits. Also, many were banned after Heidi read PM’s being exchanged between members. That act alone is inexcusable. You don’t read private conversations between people. It’s wrong and immoral.

I KNOW what it is like to be morbidly obese and would do anything just to be thin. Hell, look at the extreme I went to–getting gut-whacked(WLS). I don’t want people to think Kimkins is the way to go. Any good low carb program can get the weight off. Optimal word here being, GOOD. Kimkins is neither low carb or good. It is starvation, plain and simple.

A true low carb diet is high in fat, not protein. That definitely isn’t Kimkins. Also any “diet” can bring about weight loss, albeit, temporary. Maintaining weight loss is the key. It is difficult, VERY difficult. Don’t fall for the lies and fraud of Kimkins.

For goodness sakes, the diet does not work. Look at Heidi. Even IF she followed her own plan, she has regained. So why PAY her money for a plan that does not work. She wants to use YOU as a lab rat. She wants you to PAY to experiment with the “diet”. All the research experiments I’ve ever known PAYED YOU.

Also here is a great post done by a fellow blogger—it is well worth the read.

Thin at Any Cost

This is a small portion:

I truly believe that one of the reasons that people are susceptible to the lure of quick weight loss has nothing to do with health and everything to do with fat prejudice (much of which is disguised in the name of health). There is a huge assumption that if you’re fat you’re not healthy and you’re not taking care of yourself. The promotion of health is not the same as the promotion of thin. Thin can be taken to unhealthy extremes. Health is, well, health. It means that you eat well, exercise regularly, get good sleep, don’t smoke—you know the drill! We can all quibble about what eating well means, and that’s part of why I’m on here promoting a low-carb way of life. What really needs to be understood when it comes to weight loss is that there is no proven method that works long-term for the majority of people. People are being harshly judged for a body type they were born with and have probably tried desperately to conquer.

If health (not thin for cosmetic reasons) is really the goal here, then the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices needs to be divorced from the idea of weight loss. Because if weight loss is the only goal, then overweight people become vulnerable to two unhealthy thought processes and behaviors. One is to stop the healthy lifestyle behaviors altogether (I’m not losing weight, so why bother exercising?). The other is to go down the crash dieting path to force their body into submission – never mind the health implications (or sustainability, for many people this leads to binging).

So do yourself a favor and DO NOT fall for Heidi’s lies. If weight loss is what you desire, there are plenty of great places to go on the net for info:

If you did fall for Heidi’s lies, there are plenty of places to go to restore your health. Here is a good list:

  14. As a disinterested party, I have to say after watching the YouTube of the Fox show that this now seems to me like a turf war among low-carb factions. To us on the outside, Atkins seems nutty and cultish, and so does Kimkins. Atkins, in its original form, was pretty extreme and dangerous and derided by doctors, but changed over time in response to medical concerns. Kimkins was extreme, but they’re changing it now as Atkins did.

The fact that the founder of the diet is a lier is probably not going to matter to people who are just interested in the diet.

    John,
I must disagree. Atkins has never been dangerous, even in it’s earliest forms. Low carb is a completely safe and healthy way to feed your body. I personally follow a much higher fat intake than Dr Atkins recommended and I’ve never been healthier.
    Thank you for your comment,
    BamaGal

  17. BG great article. People have to remember kimmer and crew believed the old kimkins diet is fine, they were challenged and showed proof many times before and ignored it. Tippy new the risks, she new about the fake pictures etc yet where is she now?
It is only changing because of the pressure we are putting on them particularly with the lawsuits, media coverage and pending investigation. They still IMO think with their bank account and ego and NOT with your health, they haven’t changed they are just more careful about it.

Always remember Kimmer’s advice, influence and diet guidelines were dangerous and downright abusive, do you really want to place your trust to someone like that?

John there is plenty of research out there that shows why low carbohydrate diets are not fads. There is a sampling of what is out there on this page: http://www.apinchofhealth.com/resources/lowcarb/low-carb-research.html

I don’t think the Atkins diet was ever a fad, it was some of the marketing (e.g. eat all the steak you want) and later frakenfoods that were faddish.

  18. Sorry didn’t mean to do a tippy in the above post ;)
