I must disagree….

Jimmy Moore is well known in the low carb community. I appreciate his determination in getting the truth out there about just how healthy a low carb way of eating is. But there is a mantra he spouts that is being twisted by those who follow the vLCD supported by the Kimkins website. That mantra is “find a diet that works for you and stick with it”.

Although this is a reasonable statement, because flip flopping between eating plans shuts your metabolism down. There is no one size fits all eating plan. Yet those who are following the vLCD at Kimkins and elsewhere say it works for them. So they have twisted the essence of Jimmy’s mantra. They are actually using it as an argument SUPPORTING following that way of eating.

This argument is wrong is so many ways.

There are a slew of “diets” and weight loss gimmicks out there that will help you lose weight. But diets do not work. Not even low carb diets.

Whoa back up there BG, what are you saying????

That’s right. Diets do not work. Change the way you look at and deal with food, that works. Give your body the fuel it is genetically hard wired to be run on, high fat, moderate protein, carb restricted. That works, but diets do not work.

One of my favorite skeptic bloggersdid a 2 part series on this very thing. Don’t take my word for it. Sandy does an excellent job of reviewing the science. If you have never read her blog, she is great. Regina Wilshire got me hooked on it.

Part One: What does the evidence reveal? Can diets work?

  4. People will twist things all the time, and once it’s said often enough people start to think it’s true. People tend to learn how to be discerning the hard way, unfortunately.

  8. Perhaps my mantra should be slightly revised to say “Find the PROVEN AND TESTED weight loss plan that works for you and stick with it.” Of course, that’s implied in the original statement, but perhaps it needs to be explicit for those who are uninformed about poor choices regarding diet.

What “works for you” in my lexicon is the diet you can do, feel good doing, and never want to stop doing for the rest of your life. It’s the very essence of lifestyle change that I talk about all the time at my blog. That’s why I talk about livin’ la vida low-carb rather than just a low-carb diet.

Kimkins was created by a morbidly obese scam artist who has absolutely ZERO nutritional background or education and whose credibility is worse than Osama bin Laden! She got away with making fraudulent claims which is why I’m happy to see people like you bring out the TRUTH about her deceptive scheme.

And, yes, 2big4mysize, I acknowledge my unfortunate role in this before I realized what a sham it really. For that, I am deeply sorry because I unknowingly promoted something so sinister and devious to people so desperate to lose weight.

But we learn from our mistakes and we move forward with those lessons that life brings us. I have and am devoting myself to helping people understand what it TRULY means to be livin’ la vida low-carb. If I ever get off message again, please slap me upside the head with a porterhouse steak.

Something tells me you won’t have to worry about that again. :)
