We at Woman’s World pride ourselves on finding inspiring diet successes to share with our readers every week. That’s why we were so distressed to learn that Kim Drake, the founder of Kimkins.com, gave us inaccurate information about herself and her weight loss. Though the article appeared several months ago, in our June 12, 2007 issue, and nutritionists assure us the diet information we provided was accurate, we deeply regret having shared with you a story we can’t stand behind. Your trust means everything to us, and we want to bring you the very best magazine we can, each and every week.
This is much too little and way too late. Plus I have a big problem with their statement that “nutritionists assure us the diet information we provided was accurate”.
Here is a copy of the diet info from the magazine. Since I do not possess a copy, this was taken from the court documents in the class action lawsuit.

Christin does have a copy and made this post at LCF.
Actually, I still have a copy of the magazine and went back to check the menus provided. You are correct that this is NOT the menu that I followed. The most generous of the printed menus is actually a high end KK “friendly” menu, and after plugging in the numbers I found it to still be lacking nutritionally and calorically deficient. Also, the menu provided in the magazine had some of the same “modifications” that were added at the same time the new website went up which included a stick of string cheese or 1 cup LC yogurt to satisfy those who were crying about calcium deficiency. This didn’t help me however, and still does not satisfy the need for more calories, fat, and vitamins from more veggies.
Example:
Breakfast: 2 Eggs, 1/4 cup Salsa, 3oz Lean Ham
Snack: 1 boiled egg
Lunch: 3 oz Lean turkey, 1 cup mixed baby spinach, 2 slices turkey bacon (optional) and 2 tbls light dressing
Dinner: 4 oz Chicken, 1 cup raw baby spinach, 1/2 cup veggies, 2 tbls light dressing
Totals: 803 calories, 37g fat, 18 total carbs, 95g protein
I appriciate WW printing this retraction, I only wish they would include my statement to them that I no longer endorse this WOE and apologize for my participation in the article. I’m not sure what nutritionist they had look at these numbers, but I think that if they had someone really REALLY take a look at it, they would not even say that. Maybe whoever it is needs to go talk to the dietician we had on M&J .
She also made this post:
This is what appeared in the article as an “endorsement.”
Quote:
Low-Carb expert Fred Pescatore, M.D., author of The Hampton’s Diet, also notes that Kimkins steers dieters away from high-calorie low-carb foods including oil, nuts, and fatty meat. Reason? “On regular Atkins, you can easily eat over 3,000 calories a day if you’re not good about stopping when you’re full,” Drake (Heidi!) explains. “That’s too many calories to get to a healthy weight.”Another key: Avoiding low-carb foods sweetened with “sugar alcohols.” Drake (Heidi) is convinced they slow results; Dr. Pescatore agrees. “Low-carb companies say we don’t have to count sugar alcohols because our bodies don’t treat them like carbs,” says Drake (Heidi). “But when you’re eating a lot of sugar alcohols, you stop losing weight as fast as you should.”
A retraction will appear in the March 4th issue which will be available the week of the 25th of February. You can find the online apology from Woman’s World here.
Now, you know this retraction will be buried way back in the back, in itty bitty letters.
Just CYA……that’s all it is…..CYA…..

It’s sort of a weird apology. They are sorry Kim Drake lied. They don’t assume any responsibility for their endorsement of the plan, for the people who lost money because of that endorsement, for the people whose health was damaged by the plan because of that endorsement, and for their chronic support of crash diets in general. “Your trust means everything to us.” OhYeahRIGHT! Smells like a butt-covering act to me.
