Heidi Still Spreading Dangerous Health Claims

In her most recent blog post, Heidi is encouraging her members to use soy products.

We all know Heidi just lifts info from the net and never bothers to really do the research behind her supposed health claims. Her latest will put her members in immediate health risk.

Soy is the last thing ANYONE needs to be consuming. Those already at risk, by following a starvation level diet should never add soy products to their dietary regimen.

The “natural” remedy hormone therapy of soy that Heidi is speaking of in her blog post, is a myth. Soy foods can actually stimulate the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors and cause thyroid problems. Low thyroid function is associated with difficulties in menopause.

Those following the Kimkins Diet are already at risk for having problems with their thyroid. Adding soy would only make it worse. Recent studies show that soy can contribute to or cause heart disease, including endothelial damage (especially in women), heart arrhythmias and cardiomyopathy, an increasingly prevalent condition that affects 1 in 500 Americans.

Another good reason for Kimkins followers to NOT use soy products, Soy isoflavones are phyto-endocrine disrupters. At dietary levels, they can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue.

High levels of phytic acid in soy reduce assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Since Kimkins is a nutritionally bankrupt diet anyway. Adding soy will only make things worse.

The Weston A. Price Foundation, a non-profit nutrition education organization based in Washington, DC, submitted a petition to the FDA in response to FDA’s request for comments as the agency considers rescinding the heart health claim that has been used by manufacturers to market soy as “heart healthy” since October 1999.

My advice to all the Kimkins members is to leave Kimkins first of all. But if you are dead set to stay, refuse to listen to Heidi and her false science claims.

She’s just a bored housewife with too much time on her hands. She cares nothing about you or your health. She has no character or morals or scruples.

Get out while you can.

  3. I don’t think the info you’re getting about the dangers of soy is from the most reputable site in the world. If soy were really as bad to the heart, thyroid and ovaries as those folks claim it is, then shouldn’t the Japanese be suffering from an epidemic of the problems? For the record, I don’t think they are.

Unless you can show me some studies in the scientific literature to back up these claims, I shall remain skeptical w. r. t. soy.

The rest of Heidi’s diet advice is still dangerous, though.

Japan and other Asian cultures rarely eat soy products(1/4 c/day, A Taste of Japan, Thompson Learning, 1993.). When they do it is fermented.
